Day 1: Day 1, Friday, August 7th Toronto D Arrive at Toronto Pearson Airport, MP811 at 16:40; clear customs, load coach with luggage, proceed to hotel, freshen up before dinner
Day 2: Day 2, Saturday, August 8th Toronto-Midland Area B, D City tour of this most cosmopolitan city including time at Harbourfront Centre and Distillery District followed by free time to enjoy and explore downtown Toronto on at your own pace. Next Sainte-Marie among the Hurons, an internationally significant historic site. Sainte-Marie was the 17th century (1639-1649) fortress and headquarters of the French Jesuit mission to the Huron nation and was Ontario’s first European community.. After extensive archaeological and historical research, Sainte-Marie among the Hurons now stands recreated on the original site where its compelling story is brought to life once again.
Day 3: Day 3, Sunday, August 9th Midland Area B, D Cruise Penetanguishene harbour, entrance to 30,000 Islands of Georgian Bay. The other half of the day we take time to explore the historic Discovery Harbour and other sightseeing. Effort will be made to include farm visit on Sunday or Saturday, rearranging schedule as necessary but ensuring visits to Sainte-Marie and 30,000 Islands cruise.
Day 4: Day 4, Monday, August 10th Central Ontario B, D We depart for recently built robotic diary farm at which young couple has the latest technology. We visit the Holland Marsh, a flat intensive muck crop farming region, consisting of fertile peat moss on 2800 ha of reclaimed land, was initially settled by 15 Dutch families in 1934 to become one of Ontario’s most important vegetable growing districts. Check into our hotel for next three nights.
Day 5: Day 5, Tuesday, August 11th Southern Ontario B, D We meet a retired Dutch diary farmer who will be with us for the day. Visit local dairy farm whose owner has been a director of the Milk Marketing Board. We head to a beef feedlot operation. Followed by a large family farm, that finishes sheep for the ethnic market, breeds Angus cattle and to look at some of their large machinery used for their cash crops. Dinner at the farm, before returning back to hotel.
Day 6: Day 6, Wednesday, August 12th Southern Ontario B, D We visit a maple sugar bush to learn about the farming of this crop. Time to browse the village of St. Jacob’s. After lunch we visit some crop farms such as ginseng, tobacco, soybean and corn (maize) and time permitting a Jersey dairy farm (others would have been Holstein)
Day 7: Day 7, Thursday, August 13thNiagara Falls B, D Explore the market and if operating take in the auction sale of livestock, all within walking distance of the hotel. Later we depart for Niagara Falls, traveling along the Niagara Escarpment, UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve,. We stop at the Welland Canal Museum, lock 3, to observe the functioning of ocean liners by passing Niagara Falls and traveling throughout the Great Lakes. (Please note the visual view is much less now as a security fence has been erected). On our way to Niagara-on-the-Lake, we stop a premium cottage winery. We proceed along the Niagara Parkway, called the “prettiest Sunday drive” by Winston Churchill. Check into our Niagara Falls hotel for two nights.
Day 8: Day 8, Friday, August 14th Niagara Falls B, D Niagara Falls, one of the World’s Wonders. Time to explore the many tourist sights at the Niagara Falls including “Maid of the Mist”, a Journey behind the Falls, White Water Walk, “Fury” and all-day free transportation along the falls and gorge with your pass. Dinner tonight overlooking Niagara Falls.
Day 9: Day 9, Saturday, August 15th Niagara Falls-Toronto B We visit the Royal Botanical Gardens this morning, Rose and Rock Garden. On our way to the airport we stop at large shopping mall such as Sherway Gardens.
