Day 1: September 16, 2009 Montreal Upon clearing Canadian immigration and customs at Trudeau Montreal Airport, our guide will arrange for coach to meet the group. Depart for our downtown hotel, rest of evening free to enjoy with nearby restaurants, shops, bistros and night clubs.
Day 2: September 17, 2009 Montreal (B,D) We ascend the world’s tallest inclined tower on a furnicular elevator for view over Montreal, afterwards we have time to visit the Biodome, the only place that represents four ecosystems from the America’s under one roof with over 4800 animals of 230 species and 750 plants species, visble in their natural habitats. Depart for our hotel, time to freshen up before dinner at Le Festin Du Gouverneur , evening of entertainment, dining and revelry in the historic fort on Ste. Helene’s Island.
Day 3: September 18, 2009 Montreal-Trois Rivieres-Quebec City (B,L) Stopping at Maple Sugar Shack to enjoy some Quebecois entertainment over lunch. Along the way we have tour of the national historic site of the forge that was operational supplying ammunition to Napoleon’s army. We follow the Maurice River upstream, pass the huge hydro dam at Shawinigan to Parc National de la Mauricie, continuing our scenic drive through the countryside to Quebec City.We check into our hotel with remainder of the evening free.
Day 4: September 19, 2009 Quebec City (B) We start the day with a guided walking tour of the fortifications of this UNESCO world heritage site, Quebec City is celebrating it’s 400th anniversary. Time to wander the walled city and explore the Petit Champlain (lower level down by the river) famous for its boutiques and cafes. This afternoon we visit the imposing canyon of Ste Anne with its 3 suspension bridges, one is 60 meter over the gorges carved out by the 74 meter waterfalls that is higher than Niagara. Fall colours of the trees around the canyon should be dramatic at this time. After returning to hotel with rest of day on our own.
Day 5: September 20, 2009 Quebec City-Laurentians (B) We take time on our journey to stop as much as time permits in Saint-Sauveur and St.Jovite, charming villages in the Laurentains before we arrive in the Mont Tremblant during the spectacular autumn colour season. We ride the panoramic gondola to the top of the highest peak in the Laurentians and discover spectular views. Check into our hotel in the village with remainder of evening on own to explore Laurentians.
Day 6: September 21, 2009 Laurentians-Ottawa (B,L) Departing Mont Tremblant we head south to the Ottawa River at Montebello, stopping at Omega Park we transfer to school bus to feed the animals that roam free within the confines of the park. Over lunch we have a taste of Canada’s First People experiencing their history, culture and teaching through a guided tour, dance performance and traditional foods. We have a city tour of Ottawa showing the parliament buildings, the prime minister and governeur-general residences, many embassies, the Byward Market area, the Rideau Canal celebrating 175th anniversary and UNESCO World Heritage Site and if time the RCMP
Day 7: September 22, 2009 Ottawa -1000 Islands (B) Depart Ottawa heading south to the St. Lawrence River and Upper Canada Village portraying Canadian life of the 1860’s. From same parking lot, is Chrysler Farm which during the War of 1812 between Canada (Britain) and USA was the largest attempt by the Americans to secure Canada but failed, a film describing the event can be viewed. There is also a statute to the founding peoples of Canada here. As we follow the St. Lawrence River upstream, with the US in sight on the other side, past the historic towns of Prescott and Brockville we travel through country side dotted with lakes coming to the other end of the Rideau Canal at Lake Ontario. Our overnight hotel is near the water where the Great Lakes flow into the St. Lawrence River. Time to explore the town.
Day 8: September 23, 2009 1000 Islands-Toronto (B) Start the morning with cruise of the picturesque 1000 islands. After we proceed to the Kawartha Lake area to see some of the 900 Petroglyphs carved into white marble rock, hundreds of years ago, depiciting turtles, snakes, birds and humans and visit the interpretive centre. Time permitting we will stop in to see one of the seven wonders of Canada, the canoe. With over 600 canoes and kayaks on display, the collection reveals a unique perspective on Canadian history. We overnight in downtown Toronto. This evening we have a sightseeing tour of downtown Toronto, the most cosmopolitan city in the world, followed with stops at the Harbourfront Centre and Distillery District.
Day 9: September 24, 2009 Niagara Falls (B, D) After breakfast we depart for Niagara Falls, one of the World’s Wonders as five of the Great Lakes spill over into the Niagara River. We take an elevator down to a tunnel that runs along side and behind the falls, stopping at observation lookouts at the side and in back of the falls as we appreciate the magnitude of the volume of water descending before us. Free time to walk along the river’s edge between the American and Canadian Horseshoe Falls. This afternoon we visit the historic picturesque town of Niagara-on-the-Lake allowing time to stroll this quaint village at the entrance to Lake Ontario. We return to Niagara Falls for our dinner at a restaurant overlooking the falls. Return to same hotel.
Day 10: September 35, 2009 Toronto (B) After breakfast we depart for CN Tower, formally the world’s tallest structure at 553 metres, taking in views of the Toronto Skyline and distances as far as 150 km away from the various observation levels including the famous glass floor. Free time in Toronto before departing for the airport.
