| Day 1: | Depart Canada for New Zealand or if you may have taken the Australian pre-tour | | | Day 2: | We cross the international date line | | | Day 3: | Arrive Auckland. After checking into our central Auckland hotel, enjoy sight seeing tour. | | | Day 4: | Depart south to Waikato province, "the milk bowl of New Zealand". After stopping in Cambridge, we visit a Kiwifruit orchard followed by top dairy farm milking around 800 cows. Continue to Rotorua, a geothermal region and native culture centre. Overnight Rotorua for two nights. | | | Day 5: | This morning visit the Te Puia thermal area where you can see boiling mud pools and spouting geysers. We enjoy the Agridome, an entertaining and informative show about sheep and wool industry, and Rainbow Springs, viewing of native flora and fauna including rare Kiwi bird.
Enjoy farm lunch at sheep and dairy bull beef finishing enterprise, This is the predominant method of beef production in New Zealand. See oak trees inoculated with truffle fungi. | | | Day 6: | Transfer to Rotorua for our flight to Christchurch and tour of this "Garden City" including Port Hills for spectular views of Lyttelton Harbour, the Pacific coastline and Southern Alps. At Summer beach, take look at Ferrymead Heritage Park with its machinery for the days of colonial settlement. Check into our hotel for two nights. | | | Day 7: | Travel to Rangiora seeing museum on a dairy farm, housing dozens of fully restored Allis Chalmers and other vintage tractors. Lunch on the farm. Return to Christchurch.for look at botanical gardens, then some free time to explore on our own. | | | Day 8: | Traveling west to Canterbury Plains, we visit arable farm with mixed cropping,sheep and potatoes. Next Methven to attend World Ploughing Championships. Tonight we attend the dinner and presentation. Hotel near Methven for three nights. | | | Day 9: | Today we attend the World Stubble Ploughing Competition. Methven is small town in heart of arable farming region, with its deep alluvial soils and higher rainfall zone allowing for reliable and high yielding grain, small seeds and other specialist crops. | | | Day 10: | Today is the World Grassland Ploughing Competition. New Zealand is renowned for its pastures, ryegrass and white clover being the predominant species. Tonight we attend the World Presentation Dinner. | | | Day 11: | Head east towards Ashburton, where we have lunch talking to owners of 420 hectare farm of intensive irrigated arable land growing milling wheat, triticale, grass seed and variety of vegetable seeds.
We continue via Burkes Pass, traveling past the aqua blue lakes of Tekapo and Pukaki, onto Twizel for one night. | | | Day 12: | Traveling south we visit a salmon farming enterprise then on to Lake Hawea to visit a High Country sheep and cattle station, comprising 11,00 hectares. Lunch in the garden.
Stopping at the Warbirds Aircraft museum, we continue through scenic Central Otago to Queenstown for some free time. Two nights in Queenstown | | | Day 13: | Sightseeing tour of historic village of Arrowtown, where bungy jumping was born. We visit local vineyard to taste some Pinot Noir and other wines. Afternoon at leisure. | | | Day 14: | Full day trip to Millford Sound via farm land and the Hollyford and Cascade Valleys, described as among the finest of all alpine drives.
At Milford, your cruise takes in beautiful Stirling Falls. Observe local marine life such as fur seals,pelagic birds and maybe pods of dolphins. This evening ride the gondola up Bob's peak to enjoy "Farewell Dinner" at Skyline Restaurant. | | | Day 15: | Time at leisure before departing for the airport and onward journey.
